Anthony Schmidt may only be 14 years old, but his passion for cars has been around for a long time. When he was 3 years old, he fell in love with miniature cars. When he was 6, he started taking his first car photos with his iPhone. Self-taught, he makes photos that look amazingly realistic.
“I love taking pictures of cars, I do it every day without getting bored,” said the teenager from Woodinville, Washington, USA.

After his mother shared a photo of Anthony’s 1953 Chevy 3100 miniature pickup that Anthony had taken to a neighborhood Facebook group, he quickly became an internet sensation, releasing his own calendar, books, exhibitions, and more private exhibition.

He now has nearly 550,000 followers on TikTok, which posts videos of how he creates magical photos for 2,600 miniature cars. A video summarizing how he took photos appeared in November 2021, attracting more than 1.8 million views on TikTok
With the current tool is iPhone 13 Pro Max, most of the photos are created by the rich imagination of the teenager, with very little need to resort to editing tools.
Few people would have thought that Anthony was an autistic boy. But his mother, Ramona, wasn’t devastated by it. She has a different perspective: “Autism has given him an extraordinary artistic eye. My son’s image perception is far beyond standard tests. People with autism often think in pictures and are also very detailed people. That’s the boy’s advantage. Photography is good for Anthony’s growth.”
“You have to be very aware of scale, detail and perspective,” said the eighth grader.
Anthony’s talent has attracted the attention of Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple. He even posted Anthony’s skills on Twitter in April 2022: “Since the age of 6, Anthony has clearly shown a passion for photography. Now, he shares life-long model car photos taken with his iPhone with fans around the world, his creativity is amazing!”.
Along with photography, Anthony also has another passion: Collecting antique cars. He wants to be a Jay Leno (millionaire, comedian, host Jay Leno’s Garage by CNBC – a popular series about Americans’ obsession with cars).
He’s not old enough to drive, but last year’s calendar sales helped him earn enough to buy a 1959 Studebaker Silver Hawk (priced at over $23,000). In addition, he also owns a vintage Ford given to him by a fan. Now, whenever he needs to take a picture, Ramona’s mother will take him away.
“At the age of 14, he already had two cars. Unfortunately, I have to find a bigger house. Because we’re going to need a big garage,” the boy’s mother mused with her “sweet grief”.
