Thai sports outlets analyze the core factors behind the impact of Korean coaches on Vietnam’s U23 and national teams over the past nearly 10 years.

The principle that “the system is more important than stars” is regarded as a guiding philosophy throughout the tenure of Korean coaches in Vietnam. “When players properly carry out their assigned tasks, the collective operates smoothly, reducing dependence on any single individual,” the article adds.
From a technical standpoint, Think Curve points out that Korean coaches do not rigidly impose their own football philosophy, but instead build a style based on the Vietnamese players’ “DNA.” Rather than pursuing complex possession football that demands superior physical attributes, Vietnam is organized with a solid structure, emphasizing defensive discipline, quick transitions, and making use of players’ endurance and resilience.
This style is also adjusted to suit each tournament and the available squad. Flexibility is a key strength, allowing Vietnam to optimize existing resources instead of chasing models detached from reality.
Siam Sport further cites high-intensity pressing as another reason for the success of Korean coaches. “Teams coached by Koreans often have the ability to run relentlessly and play at high intensity,” the paper writes. “High pressing and quick transitions from defense to attack are key elements, requiring excellent physical foundations. The image of Vietnam under Park is a clear example, with players able to maintain tempo throughout 90 minutes.”
Another highly regarded aspect of Korean coaches is their understanding of Asian culture. Unlike many European coaches who struggle working in Southeast Asia, Korean coaches adapt easily to the senior–junior relationship structure as well as the psychological characteristics of players in the region.
The people-management style of Park and Kim is described as a blend of strictness in professional matters and closeness in everyday life. While discipline is firmly maintained on the training ground and in matches, the dressing room is built as a comfortable space where players can trust and bond with the coach.
