Vietnam is gradually transitioning into the era of electric motorbikes. The government has been increasingly promoting policies such as registration tax exemptions, support for charging infrastructure, and encouragement of domestic production, all aimed at reducing air pollution and moving toward sustainable development goals. Using electric vehicles not only helps lower operating costs but also contributes to building a greener, cleaner, and more modern living environment.
When it comes to electric motorbikes, VinFast is probably the first name that comes to mind for many people. With strong financial capacity and a clear strategy, VinFast has quickly dominated the market and become the leading brand in the electric vehicle sector in Vietnam. However, alongside this giant, there are other noteworthy options — one of which is Dat Bike, a young electric motorbike company gaining attention for its distinctive approach.
Dat Bike was founded by Nguyen Ba Canh Son, a software engineer who previously worked in Silicon Valley (USA). In 2019, he appeared on the Shark Tank Vietnam to seek investment but was rejected, with his product criticized as something “no one would buy.” Nevertheless, despite early criticism, Dat Bike continued to develop and quickly proved its potential. Within just a few years, the company successfully raised tens of millions of dollars from international venture capital funds and has become one of the most notable electric vehicle startups in Southeast Asia.
What sets Dat Bike apart is its commitment to researching and manufacturing most of its components in Vietnam, rather than relying on imports like many other competitors. Models such as the Weaver++ and Quantum feature modern designs, can reach speeds of up to 100 km/h, and travel nearly 300 km on a single charge — impressive figures for an electric motorbike. With high performance and technological self-sufficiency, Dat Bike is gradually carving out its own position in the market.
However, Dat Bike still has a few limitations. Its current prices remain relatively high, ranging from around 35 to over 60 million VND, making it less accessible to average consumers or students. Its product range is still limited, mainly focused on high-performance models, and its private charging station network is still being expanded, which can cause some inconvenience for users in areas far from city centers.
Though still relatively new, Dat Bike is a compelling option for those seeking a high-quality Vietnamese electric motorbike. Alongside the development of major brands like VinFast, the emergence of young companies like Dat Bike will help make the market more diverse and competitive. Ultimately, it is the consumers who benefit the most — with more choices that better suit their needs, preferences, and budgets.
