Hanoi – Through smart design and clever installation, shipping containers have been transformed into a peaceful, fully equipped vacation space.
The project, covering 1.5 floors and a total floor area of 69 m², is located in Minh Phu, Soc Son (Hanoi).
The homeowner wanted the house to serve both as a family weekend retreat and a short-term rental. Therefore, the construction needed to offer a refreshing and relaxing experience for users while ensuring investment and business efficiency.
Previously, the site had a one-story house built by the owner for rental and weekend stays, but it was rarely used. In front of the house lay an overgrown lawn and a deep pond that had been abandoned for years, bordering Phu Nghia Lake.
After analyzing the site, a location near the back of the land—far from the old house and closer to the large lake—was identified as the most geographically ideal.
The new house was designed to float above the water, with the pond’s depth and perimeter modified for safety.
The containers were custom-made in a factory and later assembled on-site. This approach made the construction more unique and innovative while saving construction time.
The main block contains the living area, kitchen, dining space, bathroom, and a leading to a shared upstairs bedroom with an adjoining outdoor terrace.
Large openings are used to reduce the separation between inside and outside, creating a more open and airy feel for the homeowner.
Next to the main building is a separate bedroom with its own bathroom, which can be rented independently.
The interior mainly features white tones to draw attention away from material possessions and instead direct focus to the surrounding nature.
By the pond is a swimming pool connected to the outdoor dining area, facing the scenic Phu Nghia Lake.
Set between forestland and a lake, the house becomes a quiet, serene getaway for the owner.
