In recent days, the 1,000 VND (about 4 cents) instant noodle shop on Thai Thi Boi Street (Thanh Khe District, Da Nang City) has attracted a large number of people. This noodle shop model was opened to support struggling workers, regardless of gender, age, or occupation. Here, anyone in difficult circumstances can drop by to receive a bowl of instant noodles complete with vegetables, eggs, and sausages without having to worry about money.
The owner of the shop, Ms. Tran Thi Bich Hue, shared that after witnessing the hardships and of many people and homelessness on the streets, she decided to open this noodle shop with the purpose of providing practical help to those in need. With just 1,000 VND, many people can enjoy a bowl of noodles with vegetables, eggs, and sausages. And if they don’t have any money, just a smile is enough.
“My shop has only been open since after Tet, but already many lottery ticket sellers, homeless individuals, and students have visited. I am very happy that my small gesture has been well received by the community. I hope this model will be expanded in the future to help even more people in difficult situations,” Ms. Hue said.
Every day, the shop serves hundreds of free or low-cost bowls of noodles to poor workers, students far from home, and homeless individuals. Although 1,000 VND is not a large amount, it represents kindness and a spirit of sharing.
Nguyen Thanh Tan, a student at Duy Tan University, shared: “Every time I finish school, I visit the shop for meal and save on living expenses. This is truly a meaningful and practical model that helps many people have a full meal to continue their work. For some, 1,000 VND or a pack of noodles may not seem like much, but when you’re hungry, it could be the best meal, warming the hearts of struggling people or travelers in need,” Thanh Tân said.
Speaking about the cost of maintaining the shop, Ms. Hue shared that she does not call for any donations from kind-hearted individuals. Her initial intention was simply to help those in need. “I charge a symbolic 1,000 VND so that people who come to eat feel comfortable and not embarrassed. I also want people to feel the care and compassion of society,” Ms. Huệ said.
